Operation Iraqi Freedom

My Time

Friday, April 16, 2004

Hey everyone. It's been really busy here and that's why I haven't written in a while. There hasn't been much action over the last couple days so things are starting to run again. One of the transportation units brought us our mail so we were working until 10:00 pm trying to get it ready since there was so much. The mail still isn't running on a regular schedule so we're still backed up and wishing the things would come in. But other than that things are pretty normal. Last night we had some outgoing artillery rounds really close to our quarters so it scared us. But after we all figured out it was outgoing we felt a lot better. See incoming makes and explosion noise and hits in different areas while outgoing sounds come from the same place everytime, you only hear a very loud pop, and if you listen carefully, you can sometimes hear where they land. It takes some getting used to but I'm getting better at it. Anyway, I just wanted to catch you all up. I hope all is well. God bless and thank you for your prayers and support...and the mail also. I wanted to tell you about other things you can send too. Besides toiletries any snack food that isn't perishable can be sent as well as reading material...ie magazines and books and puzzles etc. If anyone wants to send something to any other soldier, address it the same but in the name slot put "Any Soldier, or Any Male Soldier, or Any Female Soldier etc." Thanks again and God bless.

Greetings everyone. So good news. The attacks have slacked off a lot. I didn't hear any today at all. Doesn't mean that it's over, but for the time being, we have gotten our communications back up. They shut down communications because if a soldier is wounded or killed, they quit all out going information until they can reach the next of kin. This way a parent or a husband or wife doesn't hear about their loved ones over the news or through the grapevine. Now that things are back up, I will try to call whenever I can. The ones I call should know though that with a week without communications, it will be hard to get on the phone until the stir of everyone telling their loved ones they are alive still dies down. But I will call when I can. We also are getting no supplies in the base because of the attacks on the road. We are starting to run out of hot chow, water, and just about everything else I can think of, including mail. We're not getting that either. Hopefully it will start rolling again soon or we'll be taking baby wipe showers. Yuck! But everything else is ok. I will come back and update when I can. God bless you all.
